Joe Rogan made me laugh . . . I never thought he would, but he did. My brother happens to be a fan and brought over his dvd of Joe Rogan Live. I was surprised by the former Fear Factor host and the UFC commentator's wit and humor. He also came across as I expected; loud and cocky which I can handle for 55 minutes. About 2 months ago this hottie was telling me about this Brazillian singer, CéU, pronounced say-you. Cut to, me getting the album a week ago when I saw it at Starbucks. Apparently she is the 1st international artist featured in the Starbucks Hear Music™ Debut series and was nominated for a Latin GRAMMY® in 2006 for “Best New Artist." Looks like Starbucks's could be the new record label that will be taking over the music industry if they keep signing hot new artists like CéU.

CéU also has a few good reviews under her belt:

The lat time I went to a Barnes and Noble in-store event was to get a signed copy of Jamie Oliver's Italian cookbook signed for my mom. I didn't mind; I mean who doesn't like the naked chef and his cute British accent?? In any case I came across THE GRAND ILLUSION: Love, Lies, and My Life with Styx which is about Styx bassist Chuck Panozzo's experience of being a closeted gay man during the height of his arena rock career . . . talk about jaw dropping. I love reading bios especially ones that take you into the gritty dirty music scene of yester-year. Chuck is going to be at Barnes & Noble in Chelsea, 675 6th Avenue at 22nd St, on May 31st at 7pm . . . hollerrrrr!

I just got Stuart Cooper's Overlord on dvd from Criterion. This 1975 classic has a bunch added special features as usual! I feel like one of the luckiest girls in the world whenever I randomly get good music in the mail. What has me in this good mood? Shaw Blades' Influence album does. I was never big on Night Ranger but I do appreciate Damn Yankees since I grew up watching Ricky Rachtman on Headbangers Ball. So when I got this album of covers put together by Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades I was a little biased; I mean who didn't think they were cool back in the 80s? My rule is: what was cool then is still cool now. Anyway, back to their album . . . Influence is chock full of songs we all know by hard. The difference is they make each song ROCK!

I've been meaning to get around to David Martin's Something in Your Eyes album and did this weekend. I'm not sure if it was a combnation of my mood and his love ballads but I really enjoyed his album. To be honest I when i first saw his picture; I immediatly jumped to the conclusion that he would be another teeny bop pop artist with good looks and little talent. His cd proved me otherwise. David has good looks but he is also very talented. His music is very easy to listen to; in the same way Coldplay are. David does not sound like Chris Martin but I feel he may have the same audience. His cd may seem like an over the top love album but its genuine, he dedicated the cd to his wife. Who is Dito Montiel? He was the lead singer of the circa 90s band, Gutterboys . . . which unfortunately for Dito most of the world has not heard of. Still, why would this name come up in 2006? Fortunately for him, movie goers defintely outnumber music geeks and Dito's Indie film A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints has made a bleep on most people's radars. The flick has gotten glowing reviews with the help of Robert Downey Jr and Chazz Palminteri.
